from the DOUBLE EDITION album.

DD13 – GREG CHAMPION & JOHNNY CHESTER – KEEP THIS OLD TRUCK TICKIN’

As GREG CHAMPION was finishing his new album in late May, he wrote a song about not bouncing back quite like you used to: KEEP THIS OLD TRUCK TICKIN’. The new tune called for a duet, so Champs called upon one of Country’s favourite sons: JOHNNY CHESTER.

Chess made the 100km journey from his home in coastal Rosebud to the very other extreme of Greater Melbourne: Eltham, a region Leslie Avril calls home, and not far from Carter & Carter, up the road in Kinglake.

In a garden shed studio in Montmorency, JOHNNY CHESTER showed Greg and the engineer just why he’s had a near fifty year career in showbiz. Chess delivered like he was doing Festival Hall in front of 1,000 screaming teenagers – as he so often did do. He was sharp, witty, and ready to rock, and they could only stand back and admire.

Says Chess: “I really haven’t gigged much in about ten years – but always happy to have a crack and share a bit of fun”. And that’s what he brought to the studio. The result is (it takes a bit of extra work to) KEEP THIS OLD TRUCK TICKIN’.

May your truck keep tickin’ til we all meet in Tamworth in January.
