DD141 – DALE DUNCAN – MY DOG, NUI DAT

MY DOG NUI DAT is the centrepiece of Multi Award winning Bush Balladeer DALE DUNCAN’S hit album, BACK TO THE BUSH. Written by highly acclaimed songwriter PETER SIMPSON, himself a Vietnam Veteran, it tells the story of a returned Vietnam Veteran and his losing battle to fit in with society on his return from the war. Scarred by the war, he chooses to wander Outback Australia with his faithful dog, which he has named, NUI DAT, and trained like a soldier.

After years on the road he falls ill and has weeks to live but his thoughts are only for his loyal friend, NUI DAT, and finding the right person to care for and look after him as he would. He finds such a person on the steps of the Gwabegar Hotel, which leads to the heart-wrenching line of the song – "When you drive away from here, could you take NUI DAT?"
